A city food unit is selling Idly, a traditional dish of south India, in kilograms and at a cheaper rate.
Owner of the unit which makes idly Paranthaman said he is selling the food at Rs 35 per kg, which would be around 24 numbers approximately. In the hotels it was sold at about Rs 10 a piece, he said.
"We are able to give at a cheaper rate because we use giant steam cooking ovens which are fuel efficient. We can cook hundreds of idlis at a time, Paranthaman, was in the business for 12 years, said.

He said,"our marketing effort is a big success and families having functions at their households were buying idlies from us in large quantities".
K Radhika, a cusomer of the shop says "there are five people in our house and I buy one Kg of Idly, sambar etc. We finish our breakfast for Rs 55, which is fairly cheap.
