The Municipal Council of Hoshangabad is eliciting public opinion on whether to make the city, located on the banks of Narmada, fully 'vegetarian' by banning sale and consumption of all kinds of meat.

Talking to PTI today, Municipal Council President Akhilesh Khandelwal said, "I am seeking people's opinion on social networking site Facebook and WhatsApp (messaging service) over the imposition of ban on slaughter, sale and consumption of animals, birds and fish in the city."

After seeking the opinion, we would bring a resolution in the municipal body to ban all types of meat in the city, he added.

"Within a week, we will take a call on turning the city, situated on the banks of river Narmada, vegetarian," Khandelwal said.
