A Municipal Council official has been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe in order to pass the bills of a contractor here, police said today.
Executive officer of Bareilly Municipal Council, Virendra Jaiswal was arrested yesterday by the anti-corruption team following a complaint by a contractor who alleged that Jaiswal had asked for a bribe of Rs 20,000 from him, they said.
A trap was laid by the anti-corruption team and the officer was caught red handed while accepting the bribe amount from the contractor to pass his bill, team in-charge, Vinay Rana said.
A case has been registered and further investigations are on, Rana added.
