Civic official arrested for demanding liquor bottle as bribe

The health officer of Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) was arrested today by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for accepting a bottle of foreign liquor worth Rs 15,884 as bribe.

ACB officials said that Prakash Harishchandra Jadhav, 46, was arrested from his office today as he accepted the liquor bottle as part of an ACB trap.

Officials said Jadhav had asked for the bribe from the complainant, a medical officer, in return for issuing the latter's appointment letter.

The complainant had approached the Thane unit of the ACB which laid the trap, said officials.

In another case, ACB officials arrested a depot manager of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST)from Marol-Andheri for accepting Rs 5000 as bribe.
 

Officials said BEST depot manager Aadesh Khare, 57, was arrested for demanding and accepting the bribe for passing favourable remarks of the canteen service at the depot.
