A local court here has sentenced three workers of a private construction company, including a civil engineer, to 10 years' imprisonment in connection with the death of three labourers during laying of sewer pipes in 2016.

Fatehpur Additional District Judge Shiv Prasad Tamboli found all the three guilty of culpable homicide.

In his judgement pronounced on Friday, the judge observed that the construction company and the contractors failed to provide security equipment required for safety of the labourers during the work, additional public prosecutor Ramchandra Mahicha said.

He said that most of the witnesses in the case had turned hostile.

On May 9, 2016, three labourers, including Lal Singh, Rajpal and Dharmendra were trapped under debris during sewerage laying work in Fatehpur.

Chandra Prakash, a co-worker of the deceased labourers, had filed a complaint at Fatehpur Kotwali police station against the company and the contractor.

Mahicha said that police had filed a chargesheet against the accused and the court pronounced the judgement finding lapses on their part.
