"The number of litigations is burgeoning in the country, creating a pressure cooker like situation. If the pressure cooker does not have a safety valve it will explode," Justice Kabir said while inaugurating a new building of the Orissa High Court here.
Therefore, steps should be taken to strengthen alternative dispute redressal mechanism, he said emphasising the importance of fora like Lok Adalat, conciliation and arbitration and legal aid cells for speedy disposal of cases.
Stating that the number of judges in the Orissa High Court was less in comparison to its sanctioned strength, Justice Kabir said it needed to be addressed to.
The sanctioned strength of judges in Orissa High Court is 22 and their existing number is 13.
