Nursing a sore back, it was double whammy for Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke, who had to be treated at hospital for a severe bout of gastroenteritis.

"Cricket Australia (CA) today advised that Michael Clarke was hospitalised overnight with gastroenteritis," CA said in a statement issued today.

Clarke spent last night in the hospital and was released in the morning.

"Clarke has since been discharged from hospital and CA confirms that he is recovering at home," it said.

The 32-year-old had to return home ahead of the fourth and final Test against Indian after recurrence of back spasms, which would keep him out of action for more then eight weeks.
