Clash after badminton match, two arrested

An altercation over a badminton match snowballed into a clash between two groups at Muchibazar area in the city and two persons have been arrested in connection with it on Saturday, police said.

Search is on for the others named in the FIR lodged by the police in the incident.

Police said the altercation over the badminton match took place on Friday night and led to the clash between the two groups. While one group ransacked several shops and houses immediately after the incident, another group retaliated the next morning.

Several shops were ransacked and a house used for ceremonies and social functions and a godown were vandalised on Saturday morning, he said.

 

While locals blockaded a nearby road demanding the arrest of the culprits, the area's Trinamool Congress MLA Sadhan Pandey, who is also a state minister went to the area and urged the warring sides to restore peace.
