A clash broke out near the proposed NTPC thermal power plant at Katwa in Burdwan district today between two groups of people over the right to supply construction materials and raise the 3.5 km fence surrounding the site.

OC of Katwa police station Piyush Roy said that the two groups of people clashed over submitting of tenders and they allegedly shot fires.

"They dispersed from the area near NTPC office at Srikhanda. A team of policemen has been put on guard near the site," he said.

The construction work of NTPC's Katwa thermal power plant will begin next month. The authorities had decided to fence 556-acre area before the construction began.

NTPC Deputy General Manager Shibashish Basu informed the police after the clashes broke out but nobody was injured in the clash, Roy said.
