Aiming to provide clean potable water in Amritsar, government has approved a water supply scheme under JNNURM at an estimated cost of Rs 8,913 crore.
Another project involving work on sewage treatment plant in Amritsar has also got the nod of the Centre.
Out of the total Rs 8,913 crore water treatment project, the Centre will bear 50 per cent of the cost and an amount of Rs 1114.12 will be released as first installment, according to an Urban Development Ministry official.

The ministry has also approved Rs 8,927 crore for improving the sewerage system and the setting up of a sewage treatment plant for South East Zone in Amritsar under JNNURM Scheme.
While the Centre will bear 50 per cent of the cost and Rs 1116 cr will be released as first installment.
Both the projects are likley to be completed in three years.
