Clerk arrested for forging judge's signature, 'clearing' files

City police have arrested a court clerk for allegedly forging a judge's signature to 'clear' cheque bouncing cases.

Maruti Salunkhe, the accused, worked at Ballard Pier court in South Mumbai.

He allegedly forged signature of a judge on 105 files of cheque bouncing cases of a company, police said.

Based on a complaint filed by assistant registrar of High Court, MRA Marg police registered cheating and forgery case against Salunkhe and arrested him yesterday.

Salunkhe allegedly told the police that he 'charged' Rs 2,500 per file.

A local court sent him in police custody till Monday.
