Clerk arrested for taking Rs 5,000 bribe

A clerk at the district treasury office here was arrested today by an anti-corruption team when he was allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5,000, police said.

The Uttar Pradesh Police in a statement said a case has been registered against Brijesh Chandra Arya and he has been put under arrest.

The team acted on a complaint from Bhanmati. She said that her husband had died in 2016, but his pension had not started, the police said.

The clerk had demanded the bribe of Rs 5,000 to have the pension released, they said in the statement.
