Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today said the state will organise a conference on climate change for the first time on June 24-25 here.
Ministers of Environment and Forest from states like West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, Chhattisgarh, etc, environment experts of international repute, officials and other stake-holders will take part in the conference at Gyan Bhawan in the state capital, he said.
"It will be for the first time that a two-day conference on climate change will be organised in Patna on June 24-25. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate the conference while Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan will be the chief guest at the conference," the deputy chief minister said.
The event will discuss and dwell on various issues relating to climate change concerning the eastern states, said Sushil Modi, who also holds the Environment and Forest portfolio.
Climate change has its adverse impact on eastern states, including in Bihar, where agriculture and forestry are dependent on rain, he said.
Around 100 environment and climate change specialists of national and international repute and farmers will share their opinion and experiences.
Stating that students from various schools have also been specially invited to the conference, Sushil Modi said, "Our new generations should know about climate change and its impact and also how to deal with its challenges.
