Union Tribal Welfare Minister and BJP leader Juel Oram today had a miraculous escape as the private helicopter carrying him caught fire just before take off, officials said.
Oram, along with other BJP leaders, was sitting inside the helicopter to go to various places to address poll meetings when the fire was noticed near the chopper's tail just before its lift off.
The Union minister and others were immediately taken away to safety and the fire was controlled later, the officials said.
Oram's poll rallies to be held in Jonai, Doomdooma, Lahowal and Tingkhong were cancelled, party leaders said.
