Close to 50,000 bottles of illicit liquor has been seized here since April of this year as part of a special drive by Delhi government.
According to Excise Commissioner Neeraj Semwal, the excise department has seized 49,862 bottles of illicit liquor in Delhi so far during this financial year with a number of people also having been arrested for allegedly being involved in the trade.
Recently, the Excise Intelligence Bureau seized 1,644 bottles of illicit liquor from various parts of the national capital. A number of teams were formed and raids conducted to seize the illicit liquor, Semwal said.

He said that the above haul of illicit liquor was non-duty paid in Delhi and was being carried without authorisation by the accused.
"Prior to that, during raids conducted at various places, excise department... Recovered 48,218 bottles of illicit liquor of different brands and cases were registered against the accused at different police stations in Delhi under Delhi Excise Act, 2009. The vehicles used by the accused were also confiscated," he said.
Raids will continue in Delhi to check discrepancies and to find whether the provisions are being properly followed, Semwal said, adding that stringent action will be taken against those found violating rules.
