A cloth trader was yesterday shot dead by five persons over old enmity outside ATS society here, police said today.

Arshi Malik was killed last night around 11.30 PM when he went out of his house for a stroll, Deputy Superintendent of Police Atul Yadav said.

Malik was an eyewitness in the murder case of his younger brother Pappu Malik alias Amzad, who was shot dead on January 13, 2015. Amzad's assailants were later identified as Kaley, Rasheed, Nadeem and Naseem, he said.

Arshi had complained against Kaley alias Yunus, Mausam PradhanandNawab accusing them of trying to exhort money in July 2014, he said.

Kaley was arrested and sent to jail after Amzad's murder and since then Kaley nurtured grudge against Arshi, Yadav said.

Following the shootout, critically injured Arshi was rushed to a nearby hospital by his brother Moin where doctors declared him brought dead, he said.

On Moin's complaint, an FIR was registered under section 302 (murder) of IPC against Kaley, Aslam, Aarif, Suhail and Akram, the DSP said.

The body has been sent for postmortem.

Police teams are raiding the possible hideouts of the accused, the officer added.
