Cloud seeding trial run taken up at Jalna, Beed and Latur

Trial run for cloud seeding was taken up in Jalna, Beed, Osmanabad and Latur districts on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in rain in three villagers in Beed district, Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Eknath Khadse said here today.

Speaking to reporters today evening he said that trials will be conducted on on Wednesday, and by Thursday the effects would be noticed. Khadse said that 200 hours of cloud seeding would be done and 100 hours of cloud seeding would be given free of charge by the Khyati Climate Modification Company.

He said that experimentation would be conducted for 90 days and C-Band doppler radar would be pressed into service from August 6.
 

He said that according to experts, it begins to rain after around 40 minutes of cloud seeding. A total of Rs 27 crore of rupees would be spent on the exercise, he said.

Director of the Crises Management Department Suhas Diwse said that flares come under the category of explosives and were denied permission by airport authorities in Mumbai, after which they were sent to Aurangabad by road.
