Cluster development policy for Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) region will be announced in two months, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said today.
"A committee has been set up to frame the policy. Development Control (DC) rules will be amended for town planning for Mumbai and cluster development policy will be extended to the rest of MMR," Chavan said while replying to the opposition-sponsored resolution in the Assembly.
Earlier, the state was planning to formulate cluster development policy for Mumbai city under which dilapidated buildings in a given area were to be developed together.
He also informed that Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Swadheen Kshtriya will probe the Mumbra building collapse and fix responsibility for the mishap.
He said that employment opportunities in the MMR were growing but there was shortage of housing. Infrastructure in the region was weak and the Kshtriya committee would also make recommendations to tackle the challenge.
The chief minister said there are about 1,200 families living in 60 "very dangerous" building in Thane amd they would be shifted on a temporary basis to the housing blocks built by MMRDA while there are 22,000 families living in 1094 "dangerous" buildings and transit accommodation would need to be created for them.
Chavan also said that higher FSI (floor space index) will be given for 56 MHADA layouts for redevelopment in Mumbai.
"Additional FSI of 33 to 90 per cent will be given. It will be 35 per cent for private developers, 45 per cent for MHADA and upto 90 per cent more if the layouts are large," he added.
