AIADMK top leader and Chief Minister K Palaniswami Saturday accused arch rival DMK of trying to secure victory in the polls through the "back door" by confusing people through false promises in its manifesto.

He said no single assurance in the M K Stalin-led party's manifesto could be implemented.

Waiver of crop and educational loans availed by farmers and students, bringing down the prices of LPG cylinders, scrapping the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, quota in private sector are among the poll promises of the DMK.

Hiking the Income Tax exemption limit to Rs eight lakh, devolving 60 per cent of the total tax revenue of the Centre to states were among the other assurances of the DMK and it has also made separate assurances for each of the 18 Assembly seats that will witness bypolls on April 18.

"Not even a single project announced in the DMK's poll manifesto can be implemented. What has Stalin done so far,? He intends securing votes by confusing people," the Chief Minister alleged.

Addressing a poll rally here, he said "DMK intends to get votes by confusing the people through their poll manifesto.

DMK thinks they can win the polls through the back door by confusing people with their tall poll promises. That will never happen."

Palaniswami accused the DMK of not having implemented any scheme for the welfare of the nation.

"They made ways and means for the growth of their family members. It is DMK's habit to find fault with all schemes for the poor and stop such schemes," he alleged.

The AIADMK had alleged that its scheme of providing special assistance of Rs 2,000 each to about 60 lakh Below Poverty Line families in the state was thwarted by the DMK.

The main opposition party had petitioned the Election Commission against the scheme.

Palaniswami slammed Congress leader P Chidambaram for allegedly not allotting funds for Tamil Nadu's growth when he was the Union Finance Minister.

On the other hand, it was the AIADMK government which has paved the way for jobs for about 10.50 lakh educated youth by attracting investments of Rs 3,00,431 crore through its Global Investors Meet 2019, he said.

He recalled that Memorandum of Understandings were signed with 304 companies at the GIM.

The top ruling party leader, seeking votes for his party nominee for Theni Lok Sabha segment, P Ravindranath Kumar, son of his party colleague and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, took potshots at Congress candidate E V K S Elangovan, saying he was "imported" from outside.

A former Tamil Congress Committee president and a native of Erode district, Elangovan was also a former Union Minister during the UPA regime.

Canvassing support for the AIADMK candidate for the bypoll to Andiapatti Assembly constituency, A Logirajan, the trained his guns on rival T T V Dhinakaran-led Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, saying "you know well why the bypolls are being held for Andipatti seat."

The AMMK is in the fray in the bypolls also.

The Chief Minsiter also listed out several welfare and infrastructure initiatives for the betterment of Theni, including medical, engineering and polytechnic colleges and a Rs 76 crore worth Drinking Water Development Project at Bodinayakanur.
