Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today announced a financial assistance of Rs one lakh each to the two families of the persons who were killed and hanged on March 18 in Latehar district.

The Chief Minister also urged the families of the victims to meet him in the state capital on March 25, a government spokesman said.

Five of the eight persons allegedly involved in the killing of a 32-year-old man and 13-year-old boy and hanging them from a tree in Jhabbar village have already been arrested.

The police claimed that the motive behind the killing was to loot their animals and make it look like a suicide case after the two persons left their homes with animals for Tutilawa village in the neighbouring Chatra district for an animal fair.

CPI(M) Politburo member Brinda Karat Yesterday visited Latehar and demanded a probe by central agencies into the killing.
