CM calls for transparency in functioning of Agriculture dept

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has called upon the officials of the Agriculture department for bringing transparency by removing corrupt practices which would help keep the faith of the people in the government "intact".

Speaking at a meeting here yesterday, the Chief Minister said development of the state would not be possible without development of the agriculture sector and for that purpose the youth must be inspired to take up farming and adopting new technological advancements in the field.

Directing the field-level officers of the department to identify the tradition-based skills of the farmers, Sonowal asked them to work with honesty and dedication for bringing rapid growth in the agriculture sector.
 

Likewise, he directed the district level agriculture officers to identify farming practices of crops with highest growth potential and work accordingly to maximise the gains of the farmers.

He also asked farmers to go for cooperative based farming system.

Directing the Agriculture department to set up 50 farms within this year so that more and more youths could be engaged, Sonowal said the government was committed to set up agri-based industries in the state in a large way.

He asked the officials to take all precautions to fight the menace of pests and insects affecting the agricultural lands.
