Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today laid the foundation stone for Gattu irrigation project in Jogulamba-Gadwal district, which would irrigate 33,000 acres.
Speaking on the occasion, Rao directed that the project, which is estimated to cost Rs 553.98 crore,should be completed at a rapid pace, according to a state government release.
Rao visited the Tummilla lift irrigation project site in the region, it said.
Addressing a public meeting in the district, he favoured further enhancing the capacity of Gattu irrigation project.
He alleged that some persons, indulging in "cheap politics", filed cases in courts on different grounds to derail the irrigation project works.

Saying that irrigation schemes in the region would be completed expeditiously, he wished that the region becomes prosperous with the availability of water.
He also spoke about the number of welfare schemes initiated by his government, including godowns to store food grains, farmers' coordination committees, 'KCR kit' scheme for pregnant women.
Meanwhile, the main opposition Congress claimed that Sampath Kumar (party MLA who was expelled from assembly) was put under house arrest in connection with Rao's visit.
