Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami today led a host of leaders in greeting the people on the eve of 72nd Independence Day.
In his message, Palaniswami asked the people to rise above caste and religion and strive for making the country a super power and Tamil Nadu a model state.
He recalled various schemes announced by the AIADMK government for the benefit of freedom fighters and their heirs.
DMDK chief Vijayakanth, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss and CPI-M leader K Balakrishnan were among those who extended their greetings.
Meanwhile, the state government announced the Chief Minister's Police Medals to ten officers for excellence in investigation and five others for excellence in public service.
The recipients of the medal, which will be presented by the chief minister later, will receive Rs 25,000 cash award and a gold medal weighing eight grams, an official release said.
