: Chief Minister N Rangasamy today paid floral tributes at the bust of former Health Minister and veteran CPI leader V Subbiah on his 103rd birth anniversary.
Peaker V Sabapathy, Ministers, legislators and delegates of various associations and trade unions, including state Committee functionaries were among those who paid homage at the bust on the premises of Subbiah's home, converted into a centre of art, culture and research activities.
Puducherry government has launched the centre as per the will of Subbiah, who donated the building to the government.

Subbiah was a veteran labour leader and spearheaded the workers movement during the French regime for introduction of eight hour work schedule in industries and other establishments in 1930s.
He was Health Minister between 1969 and 1973 when the DMK formed a coalition ministry associating with CPI, under the leadership of the late M O H Farook.
He also headed the liberation movement in Puducherry and was founder of bilingual journal 'Swathanthiram'. He was the Secretary of the Communist party in Puducherry for several years.
