Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today asked the Centre to intervene urgently to end the nationwide truckers' strike as it had badly hit the consumerist state.
Inter-state movement of goods had been hit due to the strike, Vijayan said in a letter to Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
With the stoppage of 80 per cent of incoming trucks from other states with essential goods, prices of food items would go up, he pointed out.
The issues raised by lorry owners are to be settled at the national level and so the centre's intervention was needed, he added.
About three lakh lorry owners belonging to the Kerala State Lorry Owners' Welfare Federation are on strike for the past four days, protesting the hike in diesel price and increase in vehicle insurance premium, besides demanding a reduction of toll charges on major routes.
