Odisha's most wanted tribal leader with alleged Maoist links, Nachika Linga, today surrendered in Podapadar area of Koraput district, a top police officer said.
Linga, who is also the leader of Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha (CMAS), was wanted by the Odisha police after as many as 43 cases were registered against him, south western range IG Y Jethwa said.
"Of the 43 cases, there was non-bailable warrants (NBW)against Nachika Linga's name in 23," Jethwa told reporters.
The IG said police was in search of Linga since 2009 after an attack on police station at Narayanpatna, which was organised by him.
Jethwa said cases of murder, attack on police stations,arson, instigating tribals to taking law into their hands were pending in against him in different police stations of Narayanpatna, Laxmipur, Bandhugaon and Semiliguda.
Linga, allegedly with the help of left wing extremists,set up CMAS and become its leader demanding land settlement in Narayanpatna and Badhugaon blocks of Koraput district. The CMAS members had also forcibly acquired land of non-tribals in Narayanpatna block leading to law and order problems in the locality.
Jethwa said though he surrendered before the police on his own, Linga would be produced before the court as several NBWs were pending against his name.
Earlier, Jethwa said a large number of CMAS supporters and members had surrended before the police in Koraput.
