Following the death of a person allegedly due to eating stale food at the ongoing Baliyatra festival here, the local civic body today launched a massive drive against the traders selling stale and adulterated food items at the fairgrounds.

Officials said, the municipality staff have seized over two quintals of stale food from different stalls on the day and destroyed them.

Reprimanding the erring food stall owners, the officials have also imposed penalties on them.

"The district administration will be requested not to allow these persons to setup their stalls at Baliyatra grounds next year," said a Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) officer adding, the civic body had warned the food stall owners to run their stalls hygienically.

Meanwhile, the City police after registering a case of unnatural death were investigating into the death of one Arabinda Sahoo of the city, who apparently fell sick after consuming crab and prawn from a stall at Baliyatra on Friday evening.

"He was immediately rushed to the SCB medical college and hospital where he died late on Friday night," said the local Mangalabag police saying the body of the deceased was handed over to his family after post mortem.

The Police said the cause of the death would be ascertained only after getting the post mortem report.
