Coal India Apr-Jan output at 434 MT; misses target

State-owned CIL has produced 433.7 million tonnes (MT) of coal in the April-January period of the ongoing fiscal against the target of 478.5 MT, amid weak demand for the fossil fuel.

In January also it missed the target of 61 MT and produced 55.9 MT coal.

The company's offtake during April-January period was at 443 MT against the target of 489.7 MT, the world's largest miner said in a BSE filing.

The government is aiming at one billion tonne coal production by Coal India and another 500 million tonne by the private sector players by 2022.

Coal India which accounts for over 80 per cent of the domestic coal output and has a production target of 598 million tonnes for the current fiscal.
