Mining giant Coal India Ltd today announced that they are in talks with Sports Authority of India to set up a football academy.
"We're keen and consulting SAI on this matter. Hope the project will kick off in six to 10 months' time," Coal India Chairman and Managing Director Sutirtha Bhattacharya said on the sidelines of a friendly match between Coal India Chairman XI versus Calcutta Sports Journalists' Club at Mohun Bagan.
With eight subsidiaries across the country, CIL has asked each of its subsidiary to pick up an indoor and outdoor sport and take it forward.
"We're looking at forming teams, training youngsters for future and of course developing infrastructure," he said adding that they are spending about Rs 12 crore on an average from their annual profit for sport.
