Coast Guard Eastern region gets new offshore patrol vessel

Offshore patrol Vessel 'Shaurya' of has been formally inducted in the Coast Guard, Eastern region.

It was formally commissioned by Minister of State for petroleum and natural gas, Dharmendra Pradhan last week.

The 105 metre vessel, indigenously built by Goa Shipyard and with a maximum speed of 23 knots, is fitted with 30 mm CRN 91 Gun and has a state-of-the-art navigation and communication equipment and integrated machinery control system, a PIB press release said.

It is designed to carry one twin engine light helicopter and five high speed boats, including two 'quick reaction inflatable boats' for swift boarding operations, search and rescue and maritime patrol.
 

Shaurya, meaning 'courage', would be commanded by Deputy Inspector General D S Chauhan and manned by 12 officers and 94 men.

The ship would be under the operational control of Coast Guard Eastern Region Commander.

The advance features on-board ship includes integrated bridge system, power management system and high power external fire fighting system.

The ship has capable of carrying pollution response equipment to contain oil spills at sea. It has an endurance of 20 days (at sea), the release added.
