The coast guard received a message at 4 AM local time from the vessel, which was on its way to Qatar from South Korea, regarding the medical condition of Narendra Sharma who was suffering from acute abdominal pain, a Coast Guard release said.
On receipt of information, the coast guard advised the master of the ship to close (the vessel) at 20 nautical miles off the Mumbai coast and a helicopter was pressed into service following which Sharma was evacuated at 7 AM, it said.
He was later admitted to Jaslok Hospital for further treatment and reported to be stable, the release added.
