The Collector of Raigad district, adjoining Mumbai, has proposed formation of a Coastal Safety Patrol, on the lines of the Road Safety Patrol, to ensure safety of tourists in the area.
"The concept of Coastal Safety Patrol, which is the coastal version of the Road Safety Patrol, will be implemented on the beaches of Alibaug and other tourist beaches in the district," Raigad Collector Dr Vijay Suryawanshi told PTI.
The concept, which will have participation of volunteers, was discussed at a recent meeting of the District Disaster Management Board, the IAS officer said.

These volunteers will coordinate with police, he said.
Volunteers from various colleges and organisations, like the National Service Scheme, National Cadet Corps and Scouts will join hands with the district administration for this initiative, Suryawanshi said.
The district administration will also come out with a mobile app to help people take appropriate steps during a natural disaster, he said.
"The district planning department has been directed to submit a proposal in this regard," he added.
A comprehensive "beach profile" of each beach in the coastal district will be prepared to help the district administration while dealing with emergency situations, he said.
