A cobbler sleeping on a pavement here died when a luxury car in which four women engineering students, including the daughter of a police inspector, were travelling allegedly ran over him early today, police said.
One of the four students, who was driving the car, had been arrested on the charge of causing death by negligence, they said.
The victim was identified as 48-year old Ashok, who was running a small footwear repair shop on the pavement in Kushaiguda area.
Besides the 19-year old driver, there were three women passengers, including the daughter of a police inspector, in the car at the time of mishap, Kushaiguda Police Inspector Chandra Shekar said.
"The girl who drove the Skoda was trying to avoid a dog and hit the pavement and ran over Ashok. We arrested her. A case under IPC Section 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) has been registered against her. We are investigating the case," he said.
The man was seriously injured after the car hit him. Though he was rushed to the Gandhi Hospital, doctors declared him brought dead.

All the four women were second year students of a private engineering college here, he said adding one of them, who was not driving, was 'drunk', he added.
Police were verifying CCTV footage from the mishap site, he said.
