Cold conditions intensify in HP after fresh snowfall

A fresh spell of snowfall in higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh today intensified the cold weather in the state.

Strong velocity icy winds swept the region, the sky remained heavily overcast and a palesun failed to warm it up.

Theog, Narkanda, Faguand Kufri recorded 5 cm of snow, while Khadrala in upper Shimla gauged 10 cm of rains. The adjoining valley areas were also lashed by showers.

The MeT office has forecast rains or snowfall in mid and higher hills for seven days starting today due to Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Afghanistan.

The high altitude tribal area groaned under biting cold wave conditions with the minimum temperature staying 8 degrees and 15 degrees below freezing point.
 

Keylong and Kalpa in tribal Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts recorded a low of minus 3.2 degree and minus 3 degrees, while key tourist resort of Manali and Bhuntar shivered at minus 0.6 degree and 1.4 degrees.

There was no significant change in the maximum temperature and Una in Shivalik foothills was the hottest place at 27 degreesCelsius.

Rain and snow at isolated places has not brought cheers to farmers as prolong dry spell continues in most part of the state.
