The cold wave conditions intensified in higher hills and tribal areas in Himachal Pradesh today even as weather remained dry in other parts of the state.

The night temperatures dropped below freezing point in high-altitude tribal areas and Kalpa and Keylong in tribal Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts recorded minimum temperatures at 2.4 degrees Celsius and 2.8 degrees Celsius respectively, while Bhuntar recorded a low of 9.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Manali and Solan 10.0 degrees Celsius each, Sundernagar 11.5 degrees Celsius, Shimla 12.6 degrees Celsius and Dharamsala 15.2 degrees Celsius.

The day temperatures also dropped marginally despite bright sunshine and Una was the warmest in the region with maximum temperature settling at 33.2 degrees Celsius, while Sundernagar recorded a high of 30.3 degrees Celsius, followed by Nahan 27.8 degrees Celsius, Solan 27.4 degrees Celsius, Dharamsala 26.8 degrees Celsius, Manali 24.0 degrees Celsius and Shimla 22.8 degrees Celsius.

The springs, lakes and rivulets have started freezing in high-altitude tribal areas, reducing the discharge of water in snow-fed Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers.

The MeT has predicted dry weather in the region for the next six days.
