Cold wave intensify in Hry, Punj; Narnaul coldest at 1.8 C

The cold conditions sweeping Haryana and Punjab for the past five days today intensified as temperatures dipped sharply in both the states, with Narnaul city being the coldest place in the plains at 1.8 degrees Celsius.

Narnaul in Haryana and Amritsar in Punjab reeled under severe cold conditions. While Narnaul was colder by five notches than the normal limit, Amritsar's minimum settled at 2.1 deg Celsius today down by two degrees, the MeT Department said here.

Among other parts in Haryana, Hisar was also under severe chilly conditions at 2.3 deg C, which was six notches below normal level.

Karnal was also in the grip of cold conditions at 3.8 degrees Celsius minimum, down by four notches. Ambala's low settled at 5.3 deg Celsius, two notches below normal.
 

The minimum temperature at Chandigarh also dipped since yesterday to settle at 5.2 deg Celsius, down by two degrees. However, during the daytime the residents got some respite from the severe cold due to clear sky.

In Punjab, Ludhiana also was under the influence of biting cold recording a low of 3.9 deg Celsius, down three notches while Patiala registered a low of 4.6 deg Celsius, down by two degrees.

The maximum temperatures have registered a downward trend at most places in Haryana and Punjab, settling in the range of 15-20 degrees Celsius.
