Cold wave prevails in Punjab, Haryana; Amritsar coldest at 3 C

Cold conditions prevailed in most parts of Punjab and Haryana with Amritsar being the coldest place in the region.

Amritsar in Punjab recorded a minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal, MeT department report said today.

Ludhiana, the industrial hub of Punjab, and Patiala experienced cold weather at 8.8 degrees Celsius and 8.5 degrees Celsius respectively though minimum in both cities rose by up to 3 degrees above normal.

In neighbouring Haryana, Karnal and Hisar braved cold conditions at 6.5 degrees Celsius and 7.2 degrees Celsius respectively, down by a degree below normal.

Ambala, Narnaul and Bhiwani had minimum of 8.1 degrees Celsius, 7 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius respectively.
 

Union Territory of Chandigarh, which witnessed bright sunshine in the morning, recorded a minimum of 8 degrees Celsius, up by a degree above normal.

MeT department in its forecast said weather will remain dry in Punjab and Haryana in next 24 hours.
