Cold wave sweeps Punjab, Haryana

Cold conditions prevailed in most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh today with the minimum temperature dipping five degrees Celsius below normal in some areas.

However, the sun was out after widespread rains in the past few days.

The minimum temperature oscillated between two to five degrees Celsius below normal in most parts of Punjab and Haryana reviving the cold conditions in the region, the MeT office said here

In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Amritsar was coldest with a low of 3.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal.

While Hisar had a low of 4.8 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal, the minimum temperature in Ludhiana was 5.1 degrees Celsius, also five notches below normal.Adampur in Punjab settled at a low of 4.1 degrees Celsius.
 

Among other places, Chandigarh had a low of 5.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal followed by 6.2 degrees Celsius at Bhiwani, 6.3 degrees Celsius at Narnaul, three notches below normal, and 7.4 degrees Celsius at Ambala, two notches below normal.

Besides, some parts of the region, including Chandigarh (0.7 mm), Ludhiana (12.2 mm), Adampur (12 mm), Patiala (0.3 mm) and Amritsar (0.2 mm) received rains overnight.

The MeT forecast dry weather with possibility of rise in temperature in the region during the next 24 hours.
