The naming of a local councillor in a murder FIR today saw his fellow members in the municipal corporation undertake a march to the office of the police commissioner in protest over the move.

Led by Mayor Ashok Arora, the protesting councillors demanded the withdrawal of the FIR against Yogesh Dhingra, the councillor of Faridabad Municipal Corporation's Ward No.15.

Yogesh was named in an FIR filed in connection with the murder of an ice cream vendor. The ice cream vendor, Rajesh Pandey, was found murdered in SGM Nagar here on April 5.

Vinod Kumar Dhingra, the councillor's elder brother, too, was named in the FIR.

Saying that Yogesh enjoys a good reputation and is known for his service to society, the councillors demanded that the names of the Dhingra brothers be immediately removed from the FIR. Some NGOs in the district also participated in the protest.

The protesters also called for an inquiry into the case by some neutral agency as they claimed that the complaint was politically-motivated.

Deputy Mayor Mukesh Sharma and senior deputy mayor Rajendra Bhamla also participated in the protest.

Commissioner Subhash Yadav told the protesters that police had only followed the procedure in registering the said FIR.
