Two collection agents of a wheat flour company have been arrested for staging a bogus robbery on DND flyway in east Delhi in order to steal Rs 13.84 lakh from their employer, police said today.

The arrested accused told police that they were "emotionally blackmailed" by their sales manager boss to stage the bogus robbery, as he needed money for his daughter's marriage, said Omvir Singh, DCP (east).

A complaint was lodged at Mayur Vihar police station by the collection agent of the company, Bhanu Modi, that Rs 13.84 lakh was robbed from him by two bike-borne criminals on DND flyway in the area, at around 11.30 PM on February 15.

During interrogation, Bhanu admitted that he was close to his boss Adesh Kumar, sales manager of the company, and around 15 days ago he persuaded him and another collection agent Dinesh to stage the robbery drama as he needed money for his daughter's marriage, said the officer.

During investigation, police scanned the CCTV footage of the areas near the spot of the robbery. They noticed that Dinesh was present in the area at the time of the robbery although he was supposed to be collecting money from shopkeepers in southeast Delhi's Badarpur.

After this lead, they grilled Bhanu but he did not crack. Afterwards, focus was shifted to Dinesh and he was apprehended and interrogated at which he revealed the whole drama, the officer said.

Police managed to recover Rs 2.23 lakh after the duo were further grilled.

The accused sales manager Adesh managed to escape along with his family when police raided his place. He is absconding with Rs 11.60 lakh of the money misappropriated by the trio, added the officer.
