Yavatmal District Collector Sachindra Pratap Singh has mooted an idea for spreading awareness about government schemes among the public by way of wall paintings in his office.

For this, Singh has made available the newly constructed compound walls of his office to painters and talented youngsters.

According to the Collector, there are quite a good number of Centre and state government-sponsored welfare and development schemes, being implemented through various agencies in the district. But, most of villagers are unaware of the schemes due to their ignorance or illiteracy.

Nowadays, a novel programme, dubbed as 'Baliraja Chetana Abhiyan', is being carried out across the district and it has received an overwhelming response from the farmers.

The idea of attracting the attention of the daily visitors of the Collector's office through wall paintings would go a long way in creating mass awareness among the people about the government schemes, Singh said.

"We have declared prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 for the first three winners of the wall paintings," he said, adding that the students and artists from across the district may register their names at the 'Baliraja Chetana Kaksha (section) in the Collector's office.
