Collector warns parties

With the model code of conduct coming into effect following the announcement of the schedule for the Srirangam Assembly bypoll on February 13, Tiruchirappalli district collector Palaniswamy today said gathering of votes under caste and religious banners would not be allowed.

In a statement here, he warned political parties about creating differences and rift among people of different castes and religions during the campaign.

While policies and schemes of the government were open to criticism,attack on individuals would not be allowed, he said, adding, nobody should do propaganda in places of worship.

Giving money to voters, intimidating voters, impersonation, campaigning within the 100 metre range of the polling booth has been banned, he said and appealed to paries not to use plastic or polythene materials.
