Collectors asked to cover all open borewells in Rajasthan

In the wake of a recent incident in which a minor girl was recovered from a borewell in Sikar district, Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria today directed the district collectors to get covered all the open borewells at the earliest and avert any untoward incident.

District collectors, specially in the rainy season, should bound the management that no open borewell be left uncovered to avoid any loss of life, Kataria said here during a meeting of the Calamity Management and Relief department.

The minister also directed officials that the fodder depots for cattle grazing should run in the scarcity-hit and other needy villages till July 15.
 

More than 180 fodder depots were catering to over 2.36 lakh cattle in the state, and these should run despite arrival of monsoonal rains, he empahsised.

To meet any exigency and calamity situation, the state government has released a grant of Rs 2,476.16 crore relief through collectors, he said.

Kataria who is also holding this department directed that the district collectors should make a preparedness plan in view of excessive or flood life situation, if any, and set up emergency operation centre.

Civil Defence, Home Department, and Water Resource Department officials and engineers shall also be put on alert to meet any eventuality, he said.

Calamity Management and Relief Secretary Rohit Kumar apprised that many districts in the state have received a very good rainfall, and sowing for Kharif season has begun in villages.
