College chairman, bank manager booked for scholarship scam

Police have registered a case against the chairman of a local college and the branch manager of a public sector bank here for misappropriation of Rs 65 lakh from a government fund.

During an inquiry, it was found that the college management and the Punjab National Bank branch manager conspired to get scholarship worth Rs 65 lakh in the names of 186 fake students in the institute, district magistrate D K Singh told mediapersons today.

The district social welfare officer V P Pandey has lodged a complaint against the college chairman Subhash Jain, Director Sachin Kumar and PNB branch manager A K Arora under sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC.
