Police sources said 21 year-old Kanchan Kumari hung herself with a 'dupatta' at her house yesterday and left behind a note blaming the local police for failure to bring to justice those harassing her despite lodging a complaint at Dumra police station.

Kumari, a BA third-year Mathematics (Honours) student of Goenka College, took the extreme step hours after reportedly meeting the Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Kumar to plea for action against the persons who had harassed her earlier in the day at a temple and threatened to eliminate her family members, the sources said.

The victim's father Udaykant Jha too said that about four-five persons had been harassing her since past one year and said that she committed suicide apparently after losing hope for justice.

He said that his daughter had lodged complaint in writing at Dumra police station and met the SP and the DGP FOR action against the accused, but the culprits have been roaming free till date and tormenting Kumari.

The DGP Abhayanand termed the incident as 'shocking' and said that he has directed the DIG to probe the matter.
