College professor shot dead by stepson in UP

A 54-year-old college professor was allegedly shot dead by her stepson outside the college at the civil lines area here, police said today.

Kaushal Rani Chouhan, Hindi professor at Nanak Chand Anglo Sanskrit College (NAS) here was shot dead in broad daylight yesterday at the college gate by Arun, Inspector, Civil Lines police station Iqbal Ahmed Kalim said.

A case has been registered, following the complaint by Shri Chandar Chouan, husband of the deceased, against his former wife and son, they said.

Anguri Devi (55), the former wife was arrested yesterday from Baghpat area, police said, adding that her son is absconding.
 

The motive behind the crime is estimated to be a property dispute between the families, Kalim said.

The 44-year-old accused had made several attempts on the lives of his father and step-mother before, he added.
