Moved by the plight of a thalassaemia-hit seven-year old girl, students of two private colleges here have donated Rs 12.50 lakh for her treatment.

The girl was required to undergo blood transfusion and bone marrow transplant which would cost Rs 30 lakh and her father Abdul, an icecream vendor, has appealed to the public to help him financially to meet the medical expenditure.

Responding to the appeal, students of AVS College and Sakthi Kailash Arts College mobilised Rs 12.5 lakh and handed over the same to Abdul.

Already Rs three lakh had been donated toward the child's treatment by public.
