The colourful contingent of Border Security Force (BSF) men riding regally decked up camels on the Rajpath in rhythmic pace got huge applaud from the spectators of the Republic Day Parade here.

The ceremoniously dressed camels and troops, employing over 75 decorative items, presented a visually appealing scene as people acknowledged them with loud cheers and applause.

The men, each over 6 feet in height and sporting uniquely styled moustaches, and the camels presented a riot of colours. The contingent was led by Deputy Commandant Kuldeep Seervi.

Young male camels each of around five years of age are selected for the contingent and these serve for 15 years in the force.

The BSF camel band, the only one of its kind in the world, filled the air with musical notes as the band master, Inspector Phoola Ram Rana, led it on the Rajpath.

The bandsmen played "Hum Hai Suraksha Bal" tune.

The camel band of BSF was raised in 1986-87 by Rajasthan Frontier of the force.
