Comedian David Brenner, who is said to hold the record for being the most frequent guest on 'The Tonight Show', has passed away at the age of 78.
Brenner died yesterday at his home in New York City, reported New York Daily News.
Born in Philadelphia, the comedian appeared on 'The Tonight Show' 158 times. He was a favourite of the show's late host Johnny Carson.

Brenner served two years in the Army and after majoring in mass communications at the Temple University, he went on to write, direct and produce socially-conscious TV documentaries.
He did his first paid stand-up gig in New York in June 1969. Later, when he was performing at the Greenwich Village, his agent invited the talent coordinator of 'The Tonight Show' to watch his client's act.
Several auditions later, Brenner made his debut on the latenight show on January 8, 1971.
In 1976, Brenner starred in NBC's comedy series 'Snip'. The comedian also appeared on 'The Ed Sullivan Show', 'The David Frost Show', 'The Mike Douglas Show', 'Real Time With Bill Maher', 'The Late Show With David Letterman' and 'The Daily Show'.
In addition to his sons, Brenner is survived by his wife Ruth and his grandson Wesley.
