'COMEDK should reserve 8 pc seats for Hyd-Ktk students'

: The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) should allocate eight per cent of seats to students from Hyderabad Karnataka region as reserved under Article 371 (J) of the Constitution in professional colleges, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil today said.

The provisions of Article 371(J) is aimed at bringing about all-round development in the six districts of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region.

Intervening during discussion on the implementation of Article 371(J), giving special status for Hyderabad Karnataka region and Nanjundappa Committee on regional imbalance, he said eight per cent of seats have already been distributed to students from the region selected under government quota through Common Entrance Test (CET).
 

He said educational institutions under COMEDK have questioned the government's order and have got stay for it from the Court, but these institutions should also reserve eight per cent seats to selected students and they cannot avoid it.
